Opportunity:

Grounded in engineering, the leader here will shape the initiatives for the foundational technology across this prominent Financial Services business right across the nation. A fresh standard and scale enabling new-to-NZ digital experiences for their customers. There is plenty of new thinking including customer-centricity and a digital-first approach to be set in place. There is of course legacy tech to re-engineer and refresh across all your usual areas.  

A selection of programmes include high-priority initiatives in:

  • API frameworks

  • Core and payment system wrapping

  • DevSecOps

  • New delivery models and work systems

  • Data Center public cloud enablement

  • Cloud migration


Role snapshot:

Wide remit to reshape this highly-visible tier 1 Financial Services business’s technology strategy and roadmap. Bring them to the leading edge global standard and own the outcomes. The role is partitioned into four parts of leadership:

People
Lead and manage the leaders in this business, communicating the vision and getting the impediments out of the way so your people can deliver. Build and direct relationships with key vendors charged with provisioning key services and projects to 

Delivery
Enable new processes and way of working whilst orchestrating the headline programmes of work with your teams

Engineering
Balancing technical knowledge with strategy, you’ll be able to talk turkey with your teams whilst understanding the limitations and business impact of adopting, rejecting and optimizing technology from legacy to bleeding edge. As mentioned above there’s a bunch of edgy and challenging work in the roadmap.

Commercial
Is this going to ultimately deliver a better experience and value to the customers and in turn the business and team. Does this fit within the parameters of the legislation as well as driving better productivity for the business and the budget. These are the questions you need to answer for the priorities you need to manage and the decisions that will impact the enterprise.


Your fit:

You will have emerged form an engineering/technical background and worked within a financial services or bank enterprise and its relevant compliance and needs. Preferably this entity will have embarked on a digital and technology change journey with you at the helm in an executive capacity. Working at a large scale, you will have driven roadmap and strategy development, executing initiatives and orchestrating through wide teams. Contemporary in your leadership practices, you will be dangerously proficient with modern work practices, tooling and processes. Thriving in a complex technology and change environment, this is the role that will give you the pips in New Zealand if you already reside here or plan to shift home.
