Project Specialist – Emissions Reduction

The Organisation & Purpose:

WorkSafe New Zealand is the primary workplace health and safety regulator here in Aotearoa. They are responsible for undertaking regulatory activities to provide confidence that NZ workplaces are appropriately managing risk, with the goal of ensuring kiwi’s return home from work healthy and safe.

As part of the wider Carbon Neutral Government programme, WorkSafe are required to be Carbon Neutral by 2025. Travel has been identified as the largest contributor to Carbon Emissions, hence major changes need to be made to the way travel is conducted at WorkSafe (i.e., electric first). A cross-organisation team has been established to support the programme, and a Project Specialist has been identified as a key contributor needed to help lead this impactful initiative.

The Role:

Reporting into the Manager of Health, Safety & Wellbeing, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the Carbon Reduction project, including planning, implementing, and finalising projects, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the successful delivery of outputs and finally the smooth transition to business as usual to realise benefits. Major cultural and process changes will be made to meet these requirements, which will also impact suppliers and partners to WorkSafe.

The skills & experience required:

WorkSafe are looking to challenge boundaries and push innovation with the purpose of changing the broader culture / attitude towards not just H&S, but carbon emissions. Given this goal, they are looking for someone passionate about the subject matter and overall mission. Additionally, you will have:

  • 2 + years’ experience in either Project Management, Business Analysis or Programme Coordination in a similar environment
  • Demonstrated experience of success delivery of large-scale projects, at a high quality and within budget
  • Experience guiding business owners through significant cultural change
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience presenting / facilitating to groups of all levels within an organisation   
  • Confidence with reporting and data analysis, establishing routine and ad-hoc reporting
  • PRINCE2 and MSP practitioner desired. Good knowledge of Agile/SAFe desired but not essential. PROSCI certification in Change Management is also a bonus
