Potentia in the Community

As a tech recruitment agency that is committed to making a difference in the industry, we’re passionate about giving back to the community and building tomorrow’s technology professionals from the grassroots up. From hosting quarterly Korero Potentia events and attending local meetups, to one of our many sponsorships with local businesses and universities – everything we do is about our communities. Some of the community initiatives we’re involved in include:

The Potentia Undergraduate Scholarship in Computer Science

Our long-running partnership with the University of Auckland stretches back to 2013 through the Potentia Undergraduate Scholarship in Computer Science. Providing assistance to one Bachelor of Science student (who’s enrolled in software development) each year, the scholarship is now in its eighth year. As well as financial assistance towards tuition fees, the scholarship also prepares recipients for the job market through a Graduate-in-Residence opportunity within the Potentia team. Off the back of this commitment, we launched 'Taitamariki Potentia' in July 2020 - a student-led community (headed up by our Potentia Scholar) aimed at bridging the gap between university and employment; giving students the chance to connect with experienced tech professionals, employers and recruiters.

Korero Potentia

Each quarter, we host a panel-led networking event (rotating between Auckland and Wellington). We call it Korero Potentia. In line with our mission to become the most connected and respected technology recruitment business in New Zealand, Korero Potentia gives us the platform to reach our communities and stay on top of the various trends and developments that hit our markets. Run alongside a panel of industry experts (with lots of audience interaction), each event has a particular focus – previous events have covered topics like digital disruption, business transformation and the future of work, to name a few. Curriculum Development

Given the talent shortages in New Zealand, the reality is that international recruitment remains a significant part of what we do. However, we are also passionate about developing that capability organically in New Zealand. That’s why we have partnered with two local universities; AUT and Massey, where we play a role in developing the curriculum in a range of undergraduate programmes.

Sponsorship

On top of our involvement with local universities, Potentia is also heavily involved in various meetups and communities, both in Auckland and Wellington. These include:
