QA Lead
About the role
Why You Would Like It
- Transform testing practices with an AI pioneer
- Build automation frameworks from scratch—your vision, your implementation
- Join during rapid growth phase with global expansion opportunities
- Shape the entire QA function as the sole automation expert
The Opportunity
This is your chance to join a true AI pioneer—an organisation that's been innovating in artificial intelligence for 15 years, well before it became mainstream. They're experiencing rapid expansion backed by a growing global customer base, and they need someone who can transform their testing approach.
They are looking for a hands-on technical leader to build and implement their automation strategy. You'll have complete ownership over designing and implementing testing standards while working alongside their offshore manual testing team. This isn't about managing—it's about doing, building, and setting the foundation for scalable quality practices.
Company Profile
This innovative technology company has established itself as a leader in AI-imaging software. Their mission is to ensure people can access information safely and without harm.
This role is based in Wellington’s southern suburbs. While hybrid flexibility is offered, the preference is for someone who can work on-site three days a week. Applicants must hold permanent working rights in New Zealand to be considered.
The Role
- Design and implement comprehensive test automation frameworks using tools like Postman, Playwright, and Selenium
- Analyse current testing inefficiencies and completely redesign testing practices and processes
- Establish CI/CD pipelines and integrate automated testing gates using BitBucket pipelines
- Set up SonarQube for code quality analysis and Snyk for vulnerability management
- Coach offshore manual testers and establish them as subject matter experts
- Implement shift-left testing strategies and promote unit testing across development teams
- Focus on non-functional testing including performance, security, and end-user device compatibility
- Create testing documentation, standards, and best practices from scratch
- Collaborate on product-to-market testing strategies beyond traditional browser-based applications
- Monitor quality metrics and establish KPIs for development teams
Your Fit
- Strong software development background—you understand code because you've written it.
- Experience with test automation tools, particularly Postman & Playwright. (Open to Selenium as well)
- Proven ability to build testing frameworks and automation strategies from ground up
- Proficiency in at least two of: Python, Rust, C++, or .NET testing frameworks
- Experience with SonarQube, Snyk, or similar code quality and security tools
- Knowledge of CI/CD implementation and integration with testing workflows
- Understanding of non-functional testing approaches and end-user device considerations
- Confident in analysing existing systems and identifying improvement opportunities
- Comfortable mentoring and working with distributed teams
- Forward-thinking approach to quality assurance and testing innovation
