About the role

Lead a core payments and community connection platform used at global scale in an internationally regarded engineering culture. Shape technical direction, coach leaders, and strengthen clarity in delivery and decision-making.

• You’ve led tech leaders across multi-squad engineering groups
• Experience with high-scale transactional or payments systems
• Calm communicator who builds trust and alignment quickly
• Excited to guide new payment method integration and emerging data capabilities

This organisation provides a fintech platform that supports large, mission-driven organisations across the United States and abroad. Think transaction volume, and systems deeply embedded in how many of the largest communities connect, resource, and grow. With product expansion and continued platform evolution in flight, the business is strengthening engineering leadership to support scale, reliability, and tech advancement.

Why Now
Strong foundations are already in place - engineering and product work together early, jointly shape slices of work, and deliver in a sustainable, transparent way. This is not a turnaround or reset. The opportunity is acceleration, to continue maturing how teams plan, make decisions, and execute. There is also exciting new product development ahead.

The payments domain is expanding to support new payment methods and digital wallets, and the team is beginning work to strengthen data models and analytics capabilities that will enable AI-powered insights for customers. The role will help guide sequencing and architectural clarity as these capabilities are built.

The Director of Engineering will lead several engineering teams and their leaders. The role requires someone who can coach tech masterminds, create shared understanding, and support teams to reason about trade-offs with clarity. The emphasis is on influence, alignment, and steady guidance - not directive control.

The Leadership Opportunity
You’ll shape the environment in which technical and product decisions happen. You’ll partner closely with Product to ensure the roadmap is credible, sequencing is realistic, and teams maintain momentum without overreach. Your leadership will be most visible in how you bring clarity, reduce friction, and build confidence in pace and direction.

The company is shifting from siloed product structures towards domain-aligned ownership. You will play a key role in that evolution - helping define boundaries, simplify architecture decisions, and support managers through this organisational change at a measured pace.

You will be closely involved in shaping the next evolution of the platform: introducing new payment options, improving reconciliation and reporting experiences, and supporting the development of data analytics capabilities that power natural-language, AI-driven insights for administrators and finance teams. This is an opportunity to guide both the technical approach and the organisational alignment required to make those changes successful.

What Success Looks Like
A predictable, engaged delivery environment where managers are supported, engineers understand why decisions are being made, and work moves with fewer blockers. A strong, steady partnership between Engineering and Product, with shared accountability and shared reasoning. Commercial progress for the products and in turn the customers.

Who You Are
You’ve led engineering organisations of meaningful scale - typically 30–50+ engineers through managers - within SaaS, fintech, payments, or other high-volume transactional platforms. You stay close to the technical work: not writing code day-to-day, but actively contributing to architectural direction, reviewing design proposals, and guiding sequencing decisions.
You are comfortable working at the intersection of delivery, technology, and product context. You lead with clarity, reasoning, and coaching - strengthening capability rather than directing from above.

If this is the environment you want to lead in, apply now.
