About the role

Our long standing client is on the hunt for a Senior Data Engineer to help deliver modern data platforms using Databricks, Python, Azure, and cloud-native practices. You’ll work across various projects, mentor others, and have the chance to shape engineering standards and solutions. 

Based in Christchurch (preferred), but candidates in Auckland or Wellington will also be considered.

What you’ll do

• Work across multiple projects, delivering high-quality data engineering outcomes
• Mentor engineers and promote best-practice approaches
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, and stakeholders in an Agile environment
• Contribute to solution design, high-level technical decisions, and project planning
• Influence engineering standards and practices
• Opportunity to grow toward a technical Data Architect role

What you’ll bring

• Databricks certification (Associate minimum, willing/able to achieve Professional within 3–4 months is a must)
• 3+ years hands-on Databricks experience in production environments
• Strong skills in Python, SQL, and Azure
• Deep understanding of Medallion architecture (Bronze → Silver → Gold) and data modelling
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and engineering documentation
• Senior-level experience in mentoring, governance, and best-practice delivery
• Comfortable engaging in high-level technical conversations
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams
• Must have full rights to work in New Zealand
