The Opportunity
Be the architectural lead for a central client portal within a major government transformation. With one year of delivery complete and many to come, you’ll drive architectural uplift, conceptual planning, and the roadmap for scale and resilience. You’ll partner with delivery and engineering leaders to steer patterns, integrations, and non-functional outcomes. This role suits someone who can operate at conceptual altitude but step into hands-on detail when needed. You’ll help set the foundation for the upcoming milestone and guide fast-follow enhancements—balancing clarity, simplicity, and momentum in a complex, multi-vendor environment.

This role is based in Wellington and requires all applicants to have permanent working rights in New Zealand to be considered. 

The Role

• Own end-to-end solution architecture for the client portal stream
• Define target state, solution patterns, and integration architecture (Azure)
• Produce conceptual and logical designs; align NFRs and security/privacy
• Govern designs through delivery; provide assurance and clear decisioning
• Collaborate with Tech Leads, BAs, POs, designers, and partner streams
• Plan early-phase foundations; shape next-phase features and scale
• Communicate trade-offs and influence stakeholders across government machinery
• Two-stage interview process; February 2026 start

Your Fit

• Background architecting modern digital platforms (Java/AEM/React)
• Strong cloud integration experience—ideally Azure, APIs, identity (OAuth/OIDC)
• Excellent communicator; simplifies complexity and builds consensus
• Multi-vendor programme experience; public sector exposure ideal
• Balances conceptual thinking with pragmatic, hands-on leadership
• Comfortable steering patterns for performance, reliability, and security
