About the role

The Opportunity

This organisation operates some of New Zealand’s most important communications and technology infrastructure.

Following a strategic reset and portfolio refocus, the business is entering its next phase. The focus now is on improving how the organisation executes large programmes of change while evolving the systems, processes and technology that support long-term performance.
To support this next stage, a new executive role has been created to lead transformation, delivery and internal technology capability. Reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the senior leadership team, the Executive General Manager Transformation & Technology will bring together programme delivery, internal platforms, business process improvement and data capability into one coordinated function.

This role provides the leadership and structure required to prioritise initiatives, allocate resources effectively and deliver major organisational change with clarity and accountability.

The Company

For more than six decades this organisation has played a critical role in New Zealand’s communications infrastructure.
Its networks and platforms support broadcasting, emergency services, maritime communications and a range of secure connectivity and cyber security services used by businesses and government agencies across the country.
The organisation operates nationwide infrastructure, multiple operations centres and technology platforms that support services across New Zealand and the wider Pacific region.
Following a recent strategic review and the divestment of several non-core operations, the company is now focused on strengthening its core capabilities across communications infrastructure, cyber security, cloud and connectivity services.

With a clear strategic direction in place, the next stage is to enhance the organisational capability required to deliver transformation while continuing to evolve the platforms that support its operations.

The Role

The Executive General Manager Transformation & Technology becomes the executive responsible for establishing the organisation’s transformation and delivery capability.
This role brings together programme governance, internal technology platforms, automation initiatives and data capability into a single enterprise function. Working closely with the CEO and executive leadership team, you will introduce the governance and prioritisation frameworks that ensure initiatives are aligned with strategic priorities and resources are focused on the highest value work.
You will oversee the evolution of internal systems and technology platforms while ensuring investment decisions are guided by operational outcomes and long-term value. A key part of the role is identifying opportunities to simplify workflows, improve how work moves across the organisation and embed technology-enabled ways of working. As new digital capabilities continue to emerge, including AI-enabled tools, the role will ensure these technologies are embedded safely into operational systems and delivery practices.

At its core, this role provides the structure and leadership required to deliver organisation-wide change with discipline and momentum.

The Fit

The ideal person is a senior transformation, technology or delivery executive who has led large-scale organisational change within complex environments.
You may currently be operating as a CIO, CTO, Chief Transformation Officer, Director of Technology, or leading enterprise delivery functions within a major organisation. You understand how to move organisations from strategy into delivery. Your experience includes governing large portfolios of work, improving organisational capability and delivering multi-stream transformation programmes. You are comfortable working in environments with significant operational complexity and strong governance expectations. Experience within infrastructure, telecommunications, utilities, government or other regulated sectors will be valuable.
Equally important is leadership style. You bring a pragmatic and collaborative approach, building trust quickly with executive peers while providing clear direction for teams navigating change.

If the opportunity to shape the transformation capability of a nationally significant infrastructure organisation resonates, this role offers the scope to make a lasting impact.

Please note, only candidates currently based in New Zealand with valid working rights will be considered.
