Software Engineer – Android - Kotlin / IoT
About the role
Software Engineer – Android / IoT
The company
A product business building interface software and integrated hardware used by global electronics manufacturers. Their solutions plug directly into customer products, so performance and reliability matter. They operate in a true product environment. Hardware and software are continuously improved and released, not delivered once and handed over.
Why now
The product is evolving and customer demand is growing. As a result, there’s more complexity across the codebase and integrations. They need a strong engineer who can take ownership, work across both new and legacy systems, and help keep the product moving forward.
The role
This is a hands-on Software Engineer role working across Android-based applications within an IoT environment. You’ll be building new features, improving existing systems, and contributing to how the product evolves. It’s a mix of development, problem solving, and ongoing refinement rather than greenfield only. You’ll work closely with product, QA, and other engineers, but you’re also trusted to operate independently.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop and maintain Android applications across the product suite
- Work across Kotlin and existing Java codebases
- Contribute to design decisions and technical direction
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
- Refactor and improve legacy systems
- Collaborate with QA and product to deliver stable releases
- Review code and support other engineers where needed
- Kotlin, Java
- MVVM / MVI
- Coroutines
- REST APIs (Retrofit)
- Hilt / Dagger
- Android Services
- IoT exposure
What they’re looking for
- Strong commercial Android development experience
- Comfortable working across both modern and legacy systems
- Able to work independently and take ownership
- Solid problem-solving and attention to detail
This suits someone who enjoys working on real products, not just features. You’re practical, detail-focused, and comfortable in an environment where things are evolving.
Please note
You must be based in New Zealand with valid working rights.
