QA Lead
About the role
QA Lead – Devices | Automation | AI-led Testing | Salary up-to $130K p.a
Why this role stands out
- Own QA across real-world hardware + software products used globally
- Drive automation and AI-led testing, not just maintain it
- Stay hands-on while shaping QA direction in a tight, high-impact team
A product-led technology business building integrated hardware, firmware, and software platforms used by global electronics manufacturers.
This is a small, focused engineering environment where product and delivery sit close together. They’re solving real problems across connected devices, embedded systems, and interface software, with a growing global footprint.
Why now
Delivery demand has grown across both customer projects and internal product development.
QA hasn’t scaled at the same pace. Automation is still maturing, ownership has become diffused, and it’s starting to impact delivery flow.
This role is about fixing that. Bringing clear ownership to QA while modernising how testing is approached across the business.
The role
This is a hands-on QA Lead role. You’ll be testing, not just overseeing.
At the same time, you’ll take ownership of QA direction across projects and products, lifting maturity, introducing stronger automation, and exploring where AI can genuinely improve testing outcomes.
You’ll be:
- Owning QA practices across hardware and software delivery
- Testing across device, firmware, and application layers
- Driving automation across UI, API, and integration layers
- Embedding QA into CI/CD pipelines and release cycles
- Coordinating UAT and supporting release readiness
- Managing testing across multiple concurrent projects
- Mentoring a small QA team and guiding best practice
- Introducing AI-supported testing approaches where it adds value
Essential Skills
- 5+ years in hands-on QA within product or engineering-led environments
- Strong experience testing devices or embedded systems (IoT, Android, consumer electronics ideal)
- Proven automation capability across frameworks like Selenium, Playwright, Appium and Espresso
- Experience testing native Android solutions and ideally AOSP
- Experience integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to Android-based platforms is highly desirable
- Has led or significantly influenced QA direction, especially around automation
- Interested in AI-driven testing (test generation, optimisation, intelligent coverage)
- Is still close to the tools and code
- Enjoys solving messy QA problems, not just managing them
- Can guide others without needing hierarchy
- Brings a practical, forward-looking view on where QA is heading
A small QA team of four within a collaborative, product-focused business.
This isn’t a big corporate structure. You’ll have room to shape how QA evolves, but you’ll also need to be comfortable rolling up your sleeves and getting into the detail.
