The Opportunity:

This is a key leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys building engineering capability and shaping technical direction. Sitting across both people and technology leadership, you’ll lead the internal software engineering function while partnering closely with an established external development provider.

The focus of the role is on lifting engineering maturity, modernising delivery practices, improving technical capability, and ensuring software delivery aligns to where the business is heading next.

This role could suit either an experienced Software Engineering Manager or a strong Technical Lead ready to step into broader leadership responsibility.

The Role:

You’ll lead the internal software engineering capability, balancing people leadership, technical direction, and delivery oversight. Working alongside external development partners, you’ll help guide architectural decisions, improve engineering standards, and support the transition toward stronger in-house capability over time.

This role is less about day-to-day coding and more about enabling high-performing teams, creating technical alignment, and helping the business scale effectively.

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading and mentoring software engineering capability internally
• Setting technical direction and supporting architecture decisions
• Driving engineering best practices and delivery maturity
• Working closely with vendors and external development partners
• Supporting modern cloud-based delivery approaches (Azure environment)
• Partnering with product and operational stakeholders to align priorities
• Helping shape future capability across data, AI, and platform engineering

About You:

• Proven experience leading software engineering or technical teams
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Able to balance technical leadership with delivery outcomes
• Solid understanding of software architecture and modern engineering practices
• Experience working within cloud environments (Azure preferred)
• Comfortable operating across both strategic and operational discussions
• Bonus points for experience with vendor transitions, scaling teams, SaaS platforms, or data/AI initiatives
