About the role

About SBS Bank
For over 155 years, SBS Bank has been helping Kiwis and their communities thrive. As a member-owned organisation, they put their members at the heart of everything they do - guided by values of doing what's right, working as one team, owning it, and being there for their people.

Right now, SBS is in the middle of an exciting transformation. They're building a new digital banking platform and need someone to keep their existing members engaged along the way.

The Role
This is a newly created position that sits at the intersection of member engagement, digital transformation, and direct marketing. Based in Invercargill, this role offers the opportunity to make a real impact. You’ll be responsible for delivering the communications strategy that supports members through an exciting and transformational time for SBS Bank.

Your mission? Get members informed, engaged, and ready to embrace the future of banking. You’ll work closely with an outreach team, manage multi-channel campaigns, and build communication plans that make change feel simple, clear, and supportive.

This isn’t just about writing emails. It’s about improving data quality, increasing contactability, supporting the member experience, and using insights to refine your approach as you go.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and delivering member communications and engagement activity across traditional and digital channels
  • Building lifecycle and retention programmes to ensure communications are relevant and timely across the customer journey
  • Supporting our frontline teams (call centre, branches) to engage effectively with members
  • Monitoring performance metrics and member feedback to continuously improve engagement
  • Collaborating with project stakeholders, senior leaders, and external agencies to ensure we’re engaging with members effectively
  • Improving member contactability and data quality to support targeted, relevant communications

What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years’ experience in direct marketing, member/customer communications, or engagement roles
  • Proven ability to plan and execute multi-channel direct campaigns for large-scale change or transformation programmes
  • Strong writing skills - you can translate complex information into plain-English, member-friendly content
  • Solid stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence and collaborate with senior leaders, agency relationships and external suppliers
  • A data-driven mindset, with the ability to use insights to optimise performance
  • Adaptability and strong problem-solving skills, this is a fast-moving programme with evolving priorities
  • Project management experience, not essential but advantageous
  • Lifecycle or retention marketing experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing, Communications, or a related field

What’s In It For You?
  • Join a values-driven, member-owned organisation that genuinely cares about doing right by its people and communities
  • Play a pivotal role in a once-in-a-generation transformation project
  • Work with a collaborative, supportive team who are all working towards the same goal
  • Competitive salary
