About the role

Test embedded products. Build automation. Ship technology used in millions of homes.

This is an opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team developing next-generation connected video, AI and imaging products.

As a Senior Firmware Test Automation Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of embedded products by combining hands-on firmware testing with modern automation practices. Working alongside firmware, software and hardware engineers, you'll validate everything from low-level device functionality through to cloud-connected features, helping deliver products that customers rely on every day.

If you enjoy understanding how devices work beneath the surface, solving technical problems and building automation that improves product quality, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design and execute test strategies for embedded firmware and connected devices.
  • Develop and maintain automated test frameworks using Python or Java.
  • Validate firmware functionality across hardware, software and cloud-integrated environments.
  • Test APIs, embedded devices and hardware modules through both manual and automated approaches.
  • Build and integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and Docker.
  • Investigate firmware defects, analyse logs and work with engineering teams to identify root causes.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test cases and automated regression suites.
  • Work closely with firmware, hardware and software engineers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in automation, testing practices and release quality.

What You'll Bring
  • Experience testing embedded software or firmware in a product development environment.
  • Strong automation skills using Python or Java.
  • Experience building or maintaining automated test frameworks.
  • Experience working with Linux or embedded Linux environments.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker or similar.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
  • Comfortable working within Agile engineering teams.

We'd Love to See Experience With
  • IoT or connected devices.
  • Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone or similar embedded platforms.
  • Hardware communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C or JTAG.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop or device-level testing.
  • API and cloud-connected systems.
  • Video, imaging, AI or computer vision products.
  • AWS or other cloud platforms.

Why Join?
  • Work on innovative products shipped globally.
  • Build technology used in millions of homes.
  • Join a collaborative engineering team where firmware, hardware and software engineers work closely together.
  • Shape automation practices and improve product quality from the ground up.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams across New Zealand, the US and China.
  • Health insurance, Employee Assistance Programme and long-term product investment.

If you're passionate about embedded technology, enjoy getting hands-on with devices, and want to build robust automated testing for real-world products, we'd love to hear from you.
