Quality Assurance Engineer - Intermediate
About the role
Quality Assurance Engineer – Intermediate
Permanent | Auckland | Software, Automation & Embedded Systems
If you’re a QA Engineer who enjoys getting beyond the screen and understanding how a product actually works end-to-end, this could be a really interesting next step.
We’re working with an Auckland-based technology company developing sophisticated software and connected hardware products used by large global organisations. Their technology spans application software, touchscreen interfaces, embedded systems and physical hardware, and they’re looking for an Intermediate QA Engineer to join their growing Quality Engineering team.
This is a genuinely hands-on role. You’ll work across manual and automated testing, build and maintain automation, test APIs and user interfaces, and get exposure to embedded systems and hardware-in-the-loop testing. You’ll work closely with software, firmware and hardware engineers to identify issues, improve test coverage and help build products designed for long-term reliability.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing and executing manual and automated tests across software, firmware and hardware
- Building and maintaining automated test suites using tools such as Selenium and Postman
- Testing APIs, web applications and user interfaces
- Contributing to regression, functional, integration and end-to-end testing
- Working with embedded devices and supporting hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Investigating defects alongside Software, Firmware and Hardware Engineers
- Contributing automation and test cases into CI/CD environments
- Using AI-assisted tools to support test-case creation, automation and defect/log analysis
- Helping improve test coverage, quality practices and the wider QA capability
What we’re looking for:
You’ll already have a few years of commercial QA experience and be comfortable working across both manual and automated testing. You don’t need to arrive as a hardware expert, but you do need to be curious about what sits underneath the software and willing to build that knowledge.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Solid commercial experience across manual and automated software testing
- Commercial experience with Selenium and Postman
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments
- Testing experience across at least two of web, Android, iOS or embedded software
- Scripting capability, ideally Python or similar
- Strong defect investigation and troubleshooting skills
- An interest in using AI tools within modern QA and automation practices
- The ability to manage your own workload and work with a good level of autonomy
Why consider it?
This is a great opportunity if you’ve built a strong foundation in software QA but want to broaden your engineering capability.
You’ll get exposure to the intersection of software, embedded technology and hardware, while working in an environment where automation and AI-assisted testing are becoming an increasingly important part of the quality strategy.
You’ll be joining a technically strong team where you can continue learning from senior QA engineers while having enough autonomy to own your work and contribute ideas.
