Instructional Designer
About the role
About the role
This is a Learning Designer role within a large organisation going through a significant technology change, focused on helping staff build the skills and confidence to work effectively in a new system.
You'll be part of a project team responsible for the training rollout, creating content that's practical, well-designed, and actually useful to the people going through it. You'll have a genuine passion for designing learning that drives adoption, and enjoy the craft of turning complicated processes into clear, engaging experiences.
The role is fully remote anywhere in Aotearoa New Zealand, with some travel to Christchurch required from time to time.
What you'll be doing
- Design and build learning materials across a range of formats including eLearning modules, simulations, facilitated training sessions, quick reference guides, and instructional videos.
- Use tools like Articulate Storyline and Rise 360 to produce digital content that's interactive and visually well-crafted.
- Work closely with subject matter experts and project staff to understand what people need to know and how best to teach it.
- Ground all content in sound instructional design practice, with clear objectives and a focus on real behaviour change.
- Contribute to review and quality assurance processes, refining materials based on stakeholder and learner feedback.
- Deliver to project timelines in a busy, sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Strong experience in a learning design or instructional design role, across digital, blended, and classroom formats.
- Hands-on experience with eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate or Rise, producing interactive and visually appealing content.
- A strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models.
- Clear, confident communicator who works well with both project teams and business stakeholders, and can train and guide others when needed.
- A critical thinker who can identify problems and recommend practical solutions without waiting to be told what to do.
- Comfortable working under pressure and able to adapt when priorities shift.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in education, instructional design, or similar, or equivalent experience.
- Work on a large-scale project where your contribution makes a tangible difference to people's day-to-day working lives.
- Fully remote across New Zealand.
- A role with clear purpose and scope, in a team that takes quality seriously.
- Competitive salary and access to professional development.
The organisation is values-led with a genuine focus on inclusion and belonging. The team is collaborative and down to earth, with a shared commitment to quality work and looking after each other along the way.Contractor benefits (via Potentia)
