Intermediate Systems Engineer - 12 month fixed-term contract

The organisation

BRANZ is an independent building research and testing provider who help improve New Zealand's building system performance. Their focus is on delivering value and meaningfully supporting the building and construction industrythrough ensuring the research they commission or undertake will make a real and practical difference. They are in the process of building a world-class fire laboratory which can accomodate fire testing on buildings up to three stories tall and will stand alongside their new structural engineering lab.

Your role

Your role will be to provide day-to-day support for the BRANZ environment, with responsibilities including managing various IT systems, network support, operational management, cloud systems administration, backup and disaster recovery, security monitoring, helpdesk support, and fostering strong relationships across the organization. You'll need to be a tech-savvy problem-solver with a great attitude and excellent communication skills. You will ideally follow best practice approaches to issues and escalate where needed. 

Key skills you will bring
  • At least 3 years of experience in IT systems management and operations, with demonstrable technical support of relevant systems to the BRANZ environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows Systems Management (Windows Server Management, Active Directory Administration).
  • Sound knowledge of Cloud systems management
  • Technical qualification or degree in IT systems at a graduate level or equivalent experience.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Sound experience in Microsoft desktop suite and preferably MS Office 365.
  • Preferable working experience of Linux, MacOS, web systems, remote access, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience of networking systems and protocols, router and switch management and configuration.
  • Operational experience with structured networks, LAN switches, routers, configuration, VLANs, WANs.
  • Understanding and preferably experience managing security systems including firewall, anti-virus, and DLP.
